    Scanner Support

Hi all, I have just joined this forum. I'm downunder in Australia, at the moment the Chromebook is not officially available here. However, I ordered a Sumsung 5 from an eBay seller last night. I have been an early adopter of cloud computing and have also embraced everything Google, Gmail, Google Calendar, and now Gdrive, and thus I thought the Chromebook was the next natural progression. Now to my question, can I use a scanner on my Chromebook? From what I have read on the net it appears not!!! This seems like a ridiculous situation considering if you want to have all your paper on the cloud, as I do, you need a way to get the stuff there. At the moment I use a windows based filing cabinet called Lucion Filecenter together with a Fujitsu Snapscan s1500. Has anyone here worked out a way around this? Is it possible to use the Linux Wine Emulator on Chrome OS? Thanks in advance for your helpful reply. Cheers Geoff

Hi CSC slave thanks for the reply, I just had a look at the link, however I know I must be dumb, but I can't find any information on how to use a scanner to upload scans to Google drive or similar using Cloud Print. Can you elaborate on your post please. Thanks again. Geoff

Sorry I haven't actually used that cloud printer yet. it is in my future plans. Right now I use the at home scanner on a Windows machine.
I then put the picture/doc int a g-mail attachment. it is then easy to download into the CB. After downloading the pic`s go into Picasa ant the doc`s into Drive.
I am sure there is a simpler way but I am far from a geek.

    Hi,
You can't scan directly to the chromebook and you can't run linux application like Wine.

My printer/scan is a Photosmart premium (compatible with google print) and the only way to scan without Windows pc : Scan to SD card and put SD card to the chromebook ... But we can imagine in next scanner the option "scan to email or drive".

To conclude : Chrome OS need the printer/scanner that can works "alone" ...

Hi guys, I'm facing the same problem.
Asked to HP support, seems they still do not sell any printer/scanner able to scan directly to cloud.
I wonder if Google still thinks do develop Chromebooks and fix this feature, or have given up.
    Cheers,
    Giancarlo
